A welcome wave of change is flowing through The Market in Sidney, thanks to newly appointed General Manager Chet Graska. With more than 35 years in the grocery industry—26 of those in management—Graska brings a wealth of experience and a clear vision to the store’s future.

Originally from California, Graska most recently spent eight years with Sprouts Farmers Market in Colorado before accepting the leadership role at The Market. Since his arrival two months ago, he’s been hard at work transforming the store into a standout local shopping destination.

Under his guidance, The Market has already introduced more than 5,000 new products. Shoppers now enjoy a significantly wider selection, from gourmet meats, cheeses and fresh produce to ethnic ingredients and specialty items like gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and all-natural products. Graska says the goal is simple but ambitious: to build a local grocery store that can rival the variety and value of national warehouse chains like Costco.

But it’s not just about what’s on the shelves. Graska is focused on creating a community-centered shopping experience. “The people here have been amazing—welcoming, curious, and very receptive to the changes,” he said. “It’s a very positive environment to do business in.”

A typical day for Graska starts early, ensuring quality control and that shelves are fully stocked. He also dedicates time to coaching staff, helping them stay informed about new products and maintaining a friendly, customer-first attitude. One of his favorite parts of the job? Showing customers healthier versions of everyday items and highlighting unique products they might not have discovered on their own.

Looking ahead, The Market has several exciting plans in store. A major summer event is on the horizon to showcase the store’s transformation, along with a new products campaign to reflect its expanded offerings. Renovations to the community seating area are also in the works, creating space for future events and gatherings.

Additionally, Graska plans to introduce in-store classes—ranging from cooking demonstrations to crafting workshops—and is actively networking with area businesses to offer more locally sourced products.

With a focus on quality, variety and community connection, The Market under Chet Graska’s leadership is quickly becoming more than just a place to shop—it’s shaping up to be a cornerstone of the Sidney community
