What began as a simple hobby for Wayne Wick, owner of Wick Kid Repair has since transformed into a thriving local business—one born out of circumstance, passion, and a timely career change.
“I was already renting the shop space for personal hobbies,” Wayne recalls. “Then a career shift happened right around the time COVID hit. It felt like the next right step.”
That “step” turned into a full-time business dedicated to diagnosing and repairing vehicles with care and precision. Wayne says the biggest motivator comes from the satisfaction of solving problems for his customers—something he finds both joyful and challenging.
Wick Kid Repair has found strong footing in Sidney, thanks in large part to the town’s welcoming atmosphere.
“Sidney has a great sense of community,” Wayne says. “Even among competing businesses, there’s a level of camaraderie and mutual respect that’s rare.”
Despite the demands of running a business, Wayne and his wife Kayla are intentional about maintaining their work-life balance. Daily debriefs, personal hobbies, and annual vacations allow for quality time—completely unplugged.
Looking to the future, Wick Kid Repair has its sights set on growth. “We’re currently looking for a bigger shop and plan to expand within the next two to four years,” Wayne says.
As Wick Kid Repair continues to grow, recently celebrating their 5th anniversary, it’s clear the business remains rooted in the same core values it started with community, craftsmanship, and a love for the work.
