Basin Precast, Inc., a locally owned and operated business under the leadership of President Shandon Erickson, continues to make impressive strides in the construction and oilfield industries. Founded in 2010, the company was born out of a growing need for durable and reliable concrete products during a surge in regional oilfield activity. Since then, Basin Precast has become a trusted name in high-quality precast and prestressed concrete manufacturing.

Over the years, the company has built a solid reputation for producing essential components for oilfield operations, including concrete bases and pads for pumping units, treater pads, and electrical box pads. Beyond its oilfield specialization, Basin Precast also fulfills a variety of custom orders, crafting everything from septic tanks and cattle guard abutments to jersey barriers, with a commitment to quality and customer service.

Last year, Shandon invited industry veteran Mike Wolff to join Basin Precast as Vice President. With 25 years of experience at one of the largest PCI-certified precast companies in the Midwest, Mike brought a wealth of expertise in managing complex construction projects, including parking garages, apartment buildings, and data centers. In addition to his hands-on leadership experience, Mike currently serves on the PCI board and chairs the Quality Control Committee, a role that reflects his deep commitment to excellence in the field.

Under Mike’s guidance, Basin Precast has reached a major milestone: achieving official certification from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). This prestigious certification is considered the gold standard in the industry, recognizing facilities that meet the highest levels of quality in design, manufacturing, and production standards.

This certification opens the door for Basin to manufacture architectural precast products, including insulated wall panels, hollow core plank, and a variety of other structural components. These products are in high demand for commercial and industrial construction projects, and the new certification significantly enhances the company’s capabilities and market reach.  Even more notably, Basin Precast is now the only PCI certified plant within a 500-mile radius, positioning the company as a regional leader and a key player in the future of efficient construction across Montana, North Dakota, and beyond.

With this expansion comes growth: Basin is currently hiring general laborers and making plans for a larger facility to meet increasing demand. The addition of architectural precast manufacturing allows the company to contribute to faster, more efficient building techniques in the region. Prefabrication off-site reduces construction time, minimizes disruption on job sites, and increases overall efficiency — benefits that are increasingly valuable in today’s fast-paced building industry.

In addition to functional improvements, Basin Precast offers aesthetic enhancements. Through custom textures, finishes, and colors, their products not only meet structural needs but also elevate the visual appeal of buildings. Compared to traditional cast-in-place construction, precast offers significantly more design flexibility, allowing architects and builders to create distinctive, durable, and attractive structures.

As Basin Precast looks to the future, their continued innovation and recent PCI certification signal a bright path forward, one that will support economic growth and modern infrastructure development throughout the region.
