Nick Lonski
Owner; Financial Advisor, Edward Jones
For Nick Lonski, the guiding principle behind his work is simple yet profound: “We just want to help the next person who walks through our doors.” As the owner and financial advisor at Edward Jones in Sidney, Nick has spent years building a practice grounded in trust, community, and compassion. But more than just financial planning, his mission is about giving families peace of mind so they can focus their energy on what truly matters.
A North Dakota native, Nick grew up in the tight-knit farming community of Fullerton, about 60 miles south of Jamestown. The values instilled by his hardworking parents – his father, a mechanic shop owner, and his mother, a stay-at-home mom turned telephone co-op employee – shaped the man he is today. “They didn’t make what most would call a ‘good living,’ but they saved diligently and retired comfortably. That way of life inspired me,” Nick says.
After graduating from Minot State University with a degree in finance, Nick embarked on his career not with lavish offices or high-powered connections, but with a landline phone and a laptop in a small apartment. “Bobbi Jo, my wife, would drop me off on the west side of town, and I’d walk back three miles to the east side, introducing myself door to door,” he recalls. It was grassroots effort at its finest, and it worked.
Now 25 years into marriage, Nick and Bobbi Jo are proud parents of four: Owen, a finance major and college wrestler at the University of Mary; Alexa, studying political science and economics at St. Catherine University; Eli, a high school sophomore; and Oaklee, a 7th grader. Family is everything to Nick, and that same devotion carries into how he treats his team and clients. “He encourages everyone to put family first,” says a colleague who nominated Nick for the 20 Over 40 recognition. “He’s a leader who lives by example.”
It’s no surprise Nick’s team was awarded the Spirit of Caring Award by Edward Jones, an honor rarely given and only to those who live by the Golden Rule, as voted on by industry peers. But ask Nick what he’s most proud of, and the answer has nothing to do with titles or accolades. “It’s the daily pursuit of loving God, my wife, and kids more, and helping kids grow into the best version of themselves.”
Outside of the office, Nick’s commitment to service continues. He’s a devoted volunteer, coaching wrestling, participating in 4-H, attending church, and helping neighbors in any way he can. His free time is spent with family, whether it’s camping, hiking, hunting, or traveling for dance and wrestling competitions.
Despite all his accomplishments, Nick remains one of the most selfless individuals you’ll ever meet. Grounded by faith, motivated by family, and driven by a desire to serve, he is proof that success isn’t just about what you do, it’s about how you do it.
