Jeff Hintz

Public Works Director, City of Sidney

When it comes to commitment, service, and community pride, Jeff Hintz sets an example for us all.  As the Public Works Director for the City of Sidney, Jeff is more than just an employee; he’s a leader, mentor, and role model whose work ethic and heart have made a lasting impact on the city and its residents.

Since joining the city, Jeff has played a critical role in shaping Sidney’s infrastructure and public services. From road improvements and utilities to parks and recreation, pool operations, and administrative roles, his influence is evident in nearly every corner of the community. His strategic thinking and creative problem-solving have saved the city millions of dollars, savings that have helped stretch resources and bring more projects to life. Some of the methods Jeff has developed in Sidney have even been implemented by other municipalities across Montana.

Jeff’s contributions don’t stop at his job title. He is also deeply involved in Sidney’s community life. He serves on multiple local boards and committees and is a trustee at Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church. He is an active Lions Club member and is frequently one of the first to raise his hand when volunteers are needed for a service project or event. Whether he’s planting flowers for a beautification project, helping with a local fundraiser, or making sure every light is turned off before leaving city facilities, Jeff is always giving back.

The City of Sidney had this heartfelt statement to congratulate Jeff:
“The City of Sidney is excited to have our Old Man honored as one of the 20 over 40! Jeff has guided us all in how to be a leader, contribute to the community, and how things used to be. He is always the first to volunteer – whether it’s for a public service project, taking on new tasks, or making sure all the lights are turned off at the end of the day. We are proud of his dedication to his community and proving that you really are only as old as you feel.”

Jeff grew up on a family farm south of Wolf Point, Montana, where he developed the skills and mindset that would later define his leadership. “Growing up on a farm inspired me to go to college and learn all that I could,” Jeff says. “It gave me the confidence to solve problems, figure things out, and take chances.” After working various jobs across the country, he enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman at age 24 and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering.

Today, Jeff and his wife Cathy are proud parents of three children: Olivia, Cyrus, and Rae. When he’s not working, Jeff enjoys motorcycle touring, camping, and meeting new people. He also helps with farming and working cattle when needed. Whether he’s managing city projects, volunteering at church, or supporting local boards like the Zoning Board, Health Board, or Emergency Personnel Committee, Jeff Hintz gives his best to Sidney. His example reminds everyone that strong communities are built on steady hands, open hearts, and a commitment to something bigger than yourself.
