Greg Salveson
Area Manager, Kraken Resources
In the rugged and ever-evolving world of oil and gas, few names carry the weight of experience and local insight like Greg Salveson. A steadfast figure in the Bakken region, Greg’s story is one of perseverance, community commitment, and a genuine love for the industry that has been part of his family for generations.
Though Greg grew up “a little bit of everywhere,” his family put down roots in Sidney, Montana in 1978. That move proved to be life-shaping. Not only did it bring Greg closer to the heart of the oil patch; it also laid the groundwork for what would become decades of hands-on work, leadership, and local impact.
The oil field is in Greg’s blood. His grandfather, father, and uncles all worked in the industry, and he naturally followed in their footsteps. After graduating high school, Greg started his career in his father’s roustabout business. From those early days in the field, he steadily built a career filled with hard-earned experience across various sectors of the industry.
Now a key figure at Kraken Resources, Greg has played a central role in one of the most impressive oil field growth stories in recent Montana history. When Kraken started, it operated just 83 wells. In just eight years, thanks in part to Greg’s knowledge, leadership, and dedication, that number has grown to nearly 1,100 wells, three offices, and over 120 field employees. It’s a staggering transformation, one built not on shortcuts, but on grit, expertise, and a powerful belief in the team.
“Building Kraken Resources has been one of my prouder accomplishments,” Greg shares. “The best part of my job is giving back to the community and watching my fellow employees start and raise their families.”
Greg has always understood that the oil and gas industry is more than steel and soil. It’s people, families, and futures. His dedication to mentorship, employee growth, and community engagement has helped make Kraken not just a successful business, but a trusted name in the region.
His team at Kraken echoes that sentiment:
“We wanted to say how thrilled we are to see Greg’s hard work, leadership, and dedication recognized. His generosity to the surrounding local communities and all those employed at Kraken has made such a positive impact. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor. From the team at Kraken.”
At home, Greg is a proud husband to Vickie, his “great and patient” partner of over 40 years. Together, they’ve raised two daughters and are now the joyful grandparents of eight grandchildren. When he’s not working, Greg enjoys time on the golf course, fishing, or simply being surrounded by family.
He jokingly refers to the sum of his experience as a “plethora of useless knowledge,” but to those who know him, that knowledge is anything but. It’s the kind of deep understanding that can only come from decades of hands-on experience, knowledge that continues to drive a growing company, support dozens of families, and keep a proud Montana industry thriving.
For Greg Salveson, success isn’t about accolades or titles. It’s about building something meaningful, giving back, and leaving things better than he found them. And that’s exactly what he’s done – both in the oil field and in the community he proudly calls home.
